Transportation services are a cornerstone of any nation’s development, forming one of the most vital pillars of infrastructure In Egyptthe transport sector drives growth by enabling the smooth movement of goods from production areas to consumption zones and export markets In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, modern and sustainable infrastructure is essential for fostering an inclusive green economic recovery, aligned with the Ninth Sustainable Development Goal: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Egypt continues to invest in resilient infrastructure to unlock economic potential, enhance competitiveness, create jobs, and promote inclusive entrepreneurship

Guided by the political leadership’s commitment to modernization, Egypt aims to deliver excellent services in roads, railways, metro systems, and seaports. The Ministry of Transport is implementing a comprehensive strategy to strengthen connectivity within Egypt and with neighboring countries, positioning the nation as a regional hub for trade and logistics while attracting foreign investment.The government prioritizes transport projects within its ambitious strategy, ensuring integrated networks that balance social, economic, and environmental needs while maintaining the highest safety and security standards. Multi-stakeholder partnerships between international institutions, and the public and private sectors, further support Egypt’s goal of sustainable infrastructure development.
Over the past five years, Egypt’s infrastructure has experienced remarkable improvements including the doubling of electricity capacity,upgrading water and sewage networks, implementing projects across the national road network to connect all governorates, expanding Cairo’s metro lines, and developing the electrified rail network to support sustainable green transport in the years ahead. Roads and Bridges

Development of the Western Desert Upper Egypt Road, – Red Sea Road, Shubra – Banha Freeway, Northern Arc of the Regional Ring Road, – Galala Road and Tunnel – Sharm El Sheikh Road (350 km), Road from Martyr Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel to km 109 of Suez Road (24 km), Safaga / Quseer / Marsa Alam Road (200 km), Mansoura / Gamasa Road (Gamasa Branch) A total of 900 bridges and tunnels have been implemented including the bridge at the intersection of the Western Desert Upper Egypt Road with Fayoum Road and the bridge connecting the Maritime Arm Link to the International Coastal Road (km 21)

Electrified Rail and Monorail Projects

Egypt’s public transport fleet has been upgraded with environmentally friendly buses powered by electricity or natural gas. These initiatives are expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 4 million tons annually The monorail system consists of two main lines totaling approximately 100 km providing efficient, sustainable urban transport.

Construction, operation, and maintenance of a multipurpose terminal on berths 55–62, timber handling terminal at berth 3/85, free connection linking Alexandria Port to the International Coastal Road (Axis 54), infrastructure for new yard areas Damietta Port: second container terminal built, navigation channel and turning basin deepened to 18 meters Red Sea Ports: development of Safaga Port with a new warehouse in the Mishon area, upgrading Hurghada Port, mechanical lifter at Sharm El Sheikh Port, external waiting area for heavy trucks at Safaga Port.
