The concept of establishing Industrial Development Authority (IDA) was first introduced in 1957 through a Presidential Decree creating the"General Authority for the Execution of the Five-Year Industrial Program.
In 1964
the entity was renamed the General Authority for Industrialization under Presidential Decree" No.1476.

Subsequently,–the issuance of Law No. 95 marked a defining milestone in IDA’s institutional evolution. The law significantly expanded IDA’s mandate and reaffirmed its pivotal role in driving Egypt’s industrial development and supporting investors. It designated IDA as a public economic authority responsible for regulating industrial activity nationwide. This mandate further encompasses designing and implementing strategic frameworks for industrial land development, ensuring their availability to investors, and streamlining industrial licensing procedures.
